At Lanesfield Primary, our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to provide children with a real life context for learning. We want our children to aspire to be more through creating opportunities for them in the wider world. Our curriculum allows them to exercise their creativity through designing and making products for a purpose. Through the curriculum, children will be inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real life purpose. Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. It can be found in many of the everyday objects children see and use. One of our key drivers is encouraging children to think, to learn and creatively solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.

Our DT curriculum is designed to enhance our overall curriculum key driver of finance and enterprise by teaching children how to budget when making their products. We believe that it is important for children to understand finance in a variety of contexts, empowering them to play key roles in society. Through the use of IT, children are able to create designs digitally progressing to coding models and products in a cross-curricular way.
